You can validate your skills in hiragana with a test that will allow you to spot your loopholes. The 40 questions from this test are picked randomly from the hiragana table. You will be able to access the answer key at the end of this exercise.

Why test your level in hiragana?

Hiraganas are often the first step to take when you want to learn Japanese easily. Indeed, this writing system is the basis of the Japanese language. It is very simple, since each sign represents a sound that corresponds to a syllable. It is for this reason that the hiragana table is called a syllabary.

By testing your skills in hiragana, you will know if you are able to take the next steps of learning Japanese. These levels are often the katakanas, the other Japanese syllabary, or the first courses of Japanese grammar.

How this test works

I have created a list of over a hundred questions that judge your ability to recognize a hiragana from a sound, or conversely a sound from a Japanese character. Obviously, it would take you far too long to answer all these questions. That’s why I propose you a test consisting of 40 randomly drawn questions in this list. You will be able to repeat this exercise several times if you are not sure to be at the top on this first syllabary.
